INTRODUCTION

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a new international organization committed to strong, inclusive green growth. We assist developing and emerging countries with integrating their ambitions for strong economic performance and environmental sustainability with the goal of bringing about poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Headquartered in Seoul, GGGI was established by treaty in June 2012 at the United Nations Rio+20 Conference by an initial group of eighteen nations who share the organization's vision. To date, there are a total of 24 Member Countries who joined the organization.

GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries' development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Strategy Initiatives Manager will play a critical role in charting a path to guide GGGI's global relevance. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the position holder will analyze, present and be the lead implementer of strategic initiatives to close gaps between the "as is" and the "to be." Reporting directly to the Head of Strategy and Donor Relations Unit in SPC, the post holder is responsible for designing and executing a. corporate-level flagship initiatives of high-priority b. new and innovative service offerings c. strategic partnerships that can enhance the relevance and visibility of the organization.

The position plays a significant role in shaping the strategic agenda, building intellectual capacity, interacting with his/her peers across the Institute to ensure alignment and synergy. S/he will be providing consulting expertise and program management for specific strategic global and national initiatives that are deemed critical to GGGI.

For this critical position, GGGI seeks talented and experienced professionals who demonstrate broad and innovative thinking, and a keen ability to operationalize strategic ideas. The nature of the work is expected to be highly unstructured and frequently changing, and the individual will need to be adept at assessing situations and adapting his/her own style to the specific situation at hand. The opportunities that the individual is expected to create and exploit may not be obvious or clear-cut, and will require a keen ability to join dots, think across multiple planes, and quickly draw conclusions from disparate sources of stimulus.

The ideal candidate will be highly experienced management professionals with excellent strategic acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills, a strong track record of achievements overseeing complex-multi stakeholder operations, and significant experience working in developing countries. This is a high profile position with significant exposure to senior leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and refinement of GGGI Strategic Plan 2015-2020

  • Developing a compelling green growth narratives and explaining why the four thematic areas should be prioritized by the GGGI
  • Defining what differences GGGI can make in the four thematic areas through strategic interventions and key services GGGI should provide through country programs and HQ support

Strengthening Strategy, Work Program and Budget

  • Conceptualizes immediate, and long-range strategic initiatives shaping future planning directions within the overall framework of GGGI's Strategic Plan 2015-2020;
  • Identifies emerging business opportunities, and strategic priorities and innovatively translate them into GGGI's Work Program and Budget and new service offerings;
  • Works across functions to define objectives of new strategic initiatives, approach and direction within ONE GGGI framework.

Initiating and Executing New Strategic Infinitives and Services Offerings

  • Manages the pursuit of new opportunities through to close, and ensures the handover of projects to the required delivery teams whilst remaining on-hand to resolve any cross-functional delivery challenges;
  • Develops business cases for new opportunities that strengthens organizational integration and/or programmatic delivery, obtains buy-in from senior leadership and turn them into GGGI's products/services;
  • Acts as the project lead to support the implementation of strategic initiatives within agreed timeframes, communicate results, and take corrective measures to address bottlenecks.

Establishing Strategic Partnership and Managing Relationship

  • Negotiates with internal and external organizations and partners to advance strategic initiatives, pilot entry strategies and institutionalize/operationalize new GGGI products and services;
  • Prepares periodic updates to Management Team regarding project status and keeps Senior Managers informed of project direction and adjusts and aligns direction as necessary;
  • Identifies sources and data, primary and secondary research, and insights to support strategic direction and decision-making;
  • Represents GGGI to external stakeholders by bringing the best innovations from the organization to the most appropriate platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

The post holder should ideally embody the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:

  • Master's degree in development studies, economics, management, or other related field and a minimum 7-10 years of experience; preference given to experience with a multinational, matrixed organization.
  • Excellent strategic thinking capabilities and an entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving.
  • A natural leader with excellent verbal/communications skills and a thoughtful, persuasive personal style.
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders and operational owners through well-articulated strategies.
  • Ability to use analytical skills and judgment to solve problems with limited information at hand.
  • A management style that is open, collaborative, and focused on achieving results.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects under deadline pressure in a highly fluid environment.
  • Ability to frequently travel internationally.
  • Knowledge of additional language(s) is a plus.
