Director, North Asia

Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) - Singapore OR Hong Kong

Job description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Director, North Asia  will have the core responsibility of establishing a strong AVPN presence in China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

This will involve RECRUITMENT of new members along with taking the lead in developing strategies around retention and value addition in these markets.  Of considerable importance will be the individual’s ability to build on existing relationships with public and private funders and develop new ones. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced senior business executive with a proven track record in marketing and relationship management to join in a high-growth, mission-driven organization. The Director, North Asia will partner closely with the CEO to chart AVPN’s future growth and assist in determining a strategic response to rapidly growing demand for the network’s services across a wide geography.

In addition, the individual will have some internal responsibilities around financial control and planning alongside the CEO.

Responsibilities

Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Advise the CEO and other key members of senior management on prospects in the North Asia region and come up with a clear strategy to convert these prospects into members and/or funders of the network.
  • Contribute to the development of AVPN’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.
  • Represent the organization externally, as necessary.

Team Development/Leadership.

  • Recruit one direct report and perhaps a few part time consultants who will assist the Director North Asia in China to roll out AVPN Knowledge Center’s curriculum and training workshops
  • Oversee EXISTING consultants in the Korea and Japan markets with a view to growing the presence of AVPN in these markets
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.

Operations

  • Roll out AVPN’s workshops and seminars across the region.
  • Work closely with the AVPN Knowledge Center to ensure local relevance to the outputs of the knowledge center
  • Assist in developing curricula and identifying best practices and role models in the North Asia region
  • Assist in developing a operating budget keeping in mind incoming revenues and planned expenditures and any anticipation of changes Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process alongside the CEO
  • Ensure that AVPN is adhering to the strategic plan, delivering status reports to the board and funders as appropriate

External Relationship Development:

  • Manage and cultivate existing relationships with funders to secure and expand recurring revenue streams.
  • Publicly represent AVPN with external constituency groups including community, governmental, and private organizations and build excitement for AVPN’s mission.
  • An ability to function at both operational and Board level both internally and externally

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in business or accounting or economics is mandatory, a master’s in business administration is preferred
  • Fluency in English and  Mandarin is essential
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a senior management role preferably in a marketing or strategy function
  • DIRECT Experience in Asia in either a business or non profit setting  is required
  • Experience in finance and accounts would be preferred
  • Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask and can work in a smaller dynamic organization
  • Self reliant, good problem solver, results oriented who is energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with AVPN members, board of directors, and staff
  • Passion for AVPN’s  mission
  • Strong preference for location in Singapore but not madatory
